    A disturbing trend from RT.

    • First i want to say i have been with RocketTheme for a long time and enjoyed wonderful service over the years and plan on continuing. That being said, i as an owner know i like to hear all the good and the bad, so i do have a problem i would like voice.

Recently, i have brought on a new project that entailed the use of K2 and JomSocial so we chose to use the Omnicron theme.

Upon installation i noticed some issues with the JomSocial template having still carried over many CSS settings from the original template. Thus the template isnt complete imo. But no worries a quick update could resolve it for everyone.

Instead of this i was told it was not broken yet i could see it in the mods screenshots, after calling them on it i receive a response that is basically saying that its working as intended (yet its not really finished) see post below.

Through no fault of the template i decided to switch to Zephyr

I install the theme and immediately notice that the JomSocial search bar is still green from the original template

Again i get something other than a suggested fix for the problem, instead i get excuses on why its that way and that there is no problem.

If we did much more there wouldn't be anything left to do for the designers and their clients would just do their own sites. Remember that people are paying for your skills and experience and if that knowledge isn't needed then why would they hire you?

I cannot even believe someone responded with this. Its really quite laughable to me that i am being told that the product is incomplete intentionally to protect my job because all that is needed on a website is a pretty template. Seriously? I was born in the morning but not this morning!

For the record i have taught basic Joomla! to probably 2500 students over the years and i assure you that someone who isn't a developer is not going to take your template and replace me. Plus aren't you limiting yourself only catering to developers that can modify the code of your template to make it perfect.

What about the 100's of thousands of marketers out there that want a point and click system like Joomla!??

As i stated in the other post this is like saying "I litter so the homeless can clean it up and make money from the bottles."

I guess what im ultimately saying, is it seems to be a common response lately to push these issues off on the excuse that there are limitations or that were doing you developers a favor with making things incomplete.

Sure I was able to fix this issue myself in about 30 min, but that does not mean that i should have to do so. I have been a member of RocketTheme for many years now and have referred hundreds of clients to you over that time. Its not since the last 3 or 4 months that the attitude toward these types of oversights were dished off as intentional or whatever reason is deflecting responsibility from RocketTheme.

I truly feel that we paying customers deserve a complete product (unless stated "This is 95% themed for JomSocial") and that using these excuses is NOT typical of what i have always come to believe RocketTheme was and represented. Will there be bugs? Sure and i understand that, what i do not understand is complete lack of acknowledgment that they are oversights in the first place.

      I could be wrong now....but i don't think so.

    • Hi Worsin,

I was trying to point out to you that the themes are designed for Joomla and where practical they also have extended CSS for some of the more common third party components.

If you look at the statement on the Zephyr demo it clearly states...
3rd Party Compatibility Styling: Compatibility styling constitutes basic CSS alterations to better integrate the extensions with the template, rather than full theme integration. Example extensions: K2, Tienda and JomSocial.
There has to be a line drawn somewhere. We offer a wide range of colour variations and we have provided basic integration for those schemes. Nowhere do we say that the template is 100% themed for JomSocial so it is unfair of you imply that RocketTheme have provided an incomplete template.

      With reference to your comment...
I cannot even believe someone responded with this. Its really quite laughable to me that i am being told that the product is incomplete intentionally to protect my job because all that is needed on a website is a pretty template. Seriously? I was born in the morning but not this morning!
The majority of people who want a 'point & click' site can have that but your thread was about the integration of a third party component into the RocketTheme template. This is usually the sort of task people will hire a designer/developer to do on their behalf. This is what I was highlighting by my comments to you.

Many thanks for your feedback 8)

Thank you for the attention and open mindedness on this subject. As always RocketTheme in the end proves to be an outstanding company.

When you explain it that way i understand much more your original intent with the 3rd party extensions.

It is nice having them styled but given the choice of 3rd party styling and new additions like that uber MegaMenu i would go with the new features. I am savvy enough to deal with the 3rd party components myself usually i was just under the impression before that they were complete styles.

By the way a great feature for the MegaMenu would be the ability to assign a link group to a specific column. Properly arranging the MegaMenu can be a challenge, unless there is a way that i am not aware of, i would love to hear how. :D
