Fireboard

    • I think I will have to agree with Thomas on this one. As much as I hate pirates.

    • I didn't want to say that Thomas, but thanks. :D

I can understand the request from one point of view, the designs and color schemes were Andy et al's ideas, so they might want to keep a lid on it. e.g. I -did- use the bento box images, their IP, albeit modified, for the CB tabs, and the menus and buttons.

But my plan was actually to do like you said and advertise at the FB and CB boards then use it to drive people interested in the Fireboard or CB templates to RT for their matching site template. Nice templates for FB and CB are great and popular, but when there is an exactly matching site template available to boot I am sure people will fall all over themselves to get them.

You basically have a complete and matching site skeleton right there. Which is probably the number 1 thing keeping open source CMSs back from being truly professional. All the different components and modules don't match, so your site looks like a patchwork quilt.

Where I had them on my site I had at least 4 links back to RT and clearly stated that it was designed to work with the RT templates. So there was no mistaking what they should be used for. :)

Anyway, the result is though that I will probably not make anymore 'RT' fireboard or CB templates. I will in future make a 'Dark Blue and Gray' that looks ok with Bento Box, and uses original images instead of a 'Bento Box' theme.

I love RT, and was more than happy to direct people here from my site and give free advertising and add value to the RT products, but it isn't the sole thing in my Joomla life. I want to share outside RT as well as within it, and if I have to choose between the Joomla community, and the RT community... Sorry Andy. :( Plus, selfish as it seems I wouldn't mind a return on my investment if I am going to make my work no longer exclusive.

e.g. Ninjoomla isn't anywhere near as cool anymore when 300 other sites have the same forum and user profiles templates. Andy might make an extra few dollars because someone joined to get one of my FB or CB templates, or renewed because of it, but all I got was losing my otherwise exclusive layout.

Now, on the other hand if Andy wanted to setup a CB and Fireboard template club and hire me to work it, I would happily give you all more exclusive RT FB and CB goodness than you could poke a stick at. :D

I have even made modifications to other components on my site, such as clexus (a different site) remository, etc. to match the CSS style as much as possible. I would be happy to produce and release those as well in the club. (given it's a free component or we have permission of course)

The Rockettheme Components Club - CB + FB guaranteed, and other goodies on demand/time willing (I would even put in dedicated testing then)

Who'd pay $30-50 a year for access to that? I know I would. I would pay myself $50 a year for it. :D

Plus it would give RT an exclusive edge over every other Template club. They would be the only one with a complete Web Site offering with the templates.

Official RT Stance: Please if you make a fireboard template for a specific RocketTheme template, only make it available via the member's submissions board. That way we can at least try to keep a leash on the RT template pirating issue.

That is easy enough to comply with and members still can access the files no problem - I don't see an issue with Andy's request at all.
Isn't that the whole idea of the Member Submisions forum?

      Cheers!

The 2 issues though are that 1.only RT members can access them limiting their accessibility, and 2. I get nothing for sharing except a warm fuzzy feeling and some cheers in the forum.

But if it was on my site, I might be able to get a) some business b) some advertising c) some interest in my other projects.

Now I am all for warm fuzzy feelings and sharing, but I like to eat also. :)

    • ok guys you have raised some good points. i'm not a tyrant about any of this, and i'm not out to deny people traffic. The reason i said this was a while back someone did an smf template and released it publicially and it caused a lot of confusion about what it was, and why it didn't work right without the matching RT template. This is one of the reasons the member submissions board was setup. However, I can also see how it could be beneficial to RT if these themes were released with clear indications that the matching template was an RT club template and you had to be in the club to access it.

So... that said.. as long as you clearly indicate the above, i'm ok with you posting these on your own sites. However the rule about Joomla template modifications still stands.

      Cheers,

      Andy

Woo Hoo. I will make sure I put a check box agreement in there that I have no official relationship with RT, so you are not responsible for any bugs etc. And that it is designed to match a paid Joomla club template.

      Is that acceptable?

(I still think you should consider the component club btw.) :)

That was never in doubt. :)
I would, and will, always post actual Joomla template mods here.

This template is provided as is with no warranty stated or implied.

Also, it is based upon the Bento Box Joomla site template from the RocketTheme Template Club.

The Bento Box site template is not a free template and club membership will be required if you wish to use it.

Only this Community Builder template, and the associated Fireboard one are free.

    • Good to hear Andy - and again sorry if I sounded like a prick.

      Daniel could write something like:

This template is designed to match RocketThemes commercial Bentobox Joomla template, but will also look good with other light templates. In case you don't have a membership with RocketTheme template club - be sure to sign up NOW. They make some of the best working and best looking templates for Joomla - period!

Btw members that did not have the cash to sign up for yet another year with the club will be happy as well - Im sure :)

    • Daniel: How'd it go making a custom Fireboard template? Could you share your experiences as I am about to go nuts on one of my sites. Nuts Sporticus style!

It is actually really really simple. Im in the process of making a green technopia one :)

All the CSS is contained within forum.css which makes editing so much easy. The rest is images. which can be easily altered.

Its best to take an existing Fireboard theme and then customise it :)
