Menu making site hang.

    • There are a ton of images loading (besides the template specific ones) Perhaps you could try optimizing a few of them a bit more and/or eliminate a few. For example the images listed below may be able to be a bit more optimized:
      www.cleanmywater.com/auctions/header-cs.gif  ; (about 90k)
      www.cleanmywater.com/images2/home-page/Alec-drinking.png  ; (about60k)
This is just a few I noticed after a very brief peek at the site. You may be able to find a few more that could use a tweak.
You can also eliminate any unused javascript that loads. One of them I see loaded but do not see it in use is the
reflection.js (I may be overlooking where it is implemented please forgive me if I am wrong)

If you are indeed not using or plan on not using the reflection.js just remove this line of code from your template index
      <script type="text/javascript" src="http://cleanmywater.us/templates/rt_vortex/js/reflection.js"></script>

Every little bit helps when attempting to optimize your site. Get rid of anything that you do not have to use.

    • I have been thinking that perhaps one of the js's is causing a conflict. I have seen others have conflicts because of the reflections.js script in a different post. One thing to note however, is that this problem COMPLETELY disappears if I unpublish the swmenu module, which is what loads my main menu. So I doubt it's the images or the js on it's own, or has anything to do with the size of either of those. If I unpublish the menu module, my site loads in under a second, with it on, it loads, and then hangs for 10 seconds.

I did look at my task manager like you said Mack, and I did notice it kicking my CPU up quite a bit. I went from 6% to 60% during the hang. Will have to try and figure out what about my page could tax a cpu like that!

      Thanks,

    • Like I said...it's probably caused by your huge index file. SWmenu has to generate all those lists and links. That will take some time.

    • And therre is the question I have been pondering. If I don't use swmenu..if I use say, the extended menu module, and then manual do all of the setup for the suckfish menu...do you think that will help the problem?
