Are some templates better suited for certain type sites?

    • I just joined RocketTheme not too long ago. Just getting started with Joomla in general. Are some templates better suited to e-commerce sites than others, or do they all equally do the job? If anyone who has an eye for this stuff wants to make a RT template recommendation based on my current website, feel free to send me a private message (I don't want to put the URL in the forum)

I will be using Virtuemart, Zoom Photo Gallery, JamBook, OpenSEF, Fireboard, JROX Affiliate Manager, and some other stuff. One thing that is very important from what I understand about module positions and Joomla, is the live help status icon. It should be on every page of the site, however, I don't want it to be around the main content area because on several pages of the site, I plan to have modules collapsed for greater width (such as the forum).

It seems like if I go with a template like Colormatic or versatility III, then I can just use the toolbar dropdown menu and not have to ever worry about a left/right sidebar menu on the site. Is this a good idea for menu structure and navigation or should I be using a sidebar menu?

      Thanks so much

    • Any of these can be super sweet and easily customized to whatever you want. But if your looking for navigation ideas then stick with simple and obvious

I use top and side when i can and drop the side off when i cant for wrappers or what not. Dont use stuff that seems super cool unless your selling stuff to smart internet savvy people. they look cool to you but most people will not be able to figure it out. Thats why i eventually ended up leaving flash except for video. Flash is cool but people are stupid. And end meeting end they dont care about your design they just want what you have to offer them.

how many times have you used ebay because it had bad assed graphics?

now that being said if you look like your a homeless guy that made this at the library then you arent going to get any bites either (no worries with RT on your side though).

But anyways I would make it as obvious as possible what you have and how to get to it. Dont be afread to use graphics that say click here for "whatever you sell". Also try and make them standout as much as possible. So your visitors are drawn to them and most off all dont burry your good stuff. Ever gone to a site looking for info and been confused as to where its at and how to get to it? Me too, dont be that guy.

    • Take some templates for a testdrive and see what turns yer crank is my recommendation.

Fyi, this site is using a customized Internet Gazette.

      Cheers!
