Hello... I was a little unsure where exactly to post this. I have a site (wait for it...)
http://www.ufcw555.com
and for the most part, I am happy with what I have. There are a few things about the kinetic template that I don't like. I don't like the menu and the ribbons. I have been waiting to see if a template would be released that gave me everything I want, and while I would love to hold my breath, I don't think that's ever going to happen. So, I have noticed that I really like most of the Panacea template. The only thing I don't really like is the frame (border of the template body). I realized today that if I could keep the frame of the kinetic template and place inside it the guts of the Panacea template, I would probably have what I want.
The question is... How do I keep the frame of kinetic and put inside the guts and workings of Panacea?
Moving feature X from template A to template B is really not part of support and should be considered a custom development effort, in which case if you need assistance with development, you should be posted here for (paid) assistance from a developer.
Thank you and I appreciate the comments. I totally understand what you are saying. I also understand what Andy is saying in the threads you mentioned. The problem I have is that many questions are such as mine and they do get answered. While I am not able to go find the thread at the moment a case and point is a discussion I read about putting the rotator of Panancea in the Zypher template (being exactly what you refer to "X from template a to template b"). Had I not read that post who knows if I would have posted here. I tried to modify Kat's instructions to work with Kinetic and failed. So I thought I would ask for help. Not trying to get anyone to design my website, just looking for guidance.
Standalone extensions move from one template to the next fairly easily.
But when you want to add quite a bit of one template's features to the next it's not an easy task, as a lot of the styling is hard coded to a particular template's index.php and all the style css files.
To move A to B is not as simple as installing a component and being on you way, it may take editing a half dozen, a dozen, or even more files to port what you want, which in most cases is really not possible in terms of support.
(Of course I know you are not looking for us to build your site, I just wanted you to note that you should be reasonable in your expectations.)
You best bet, if you haven't already, is to post in the forum for the template you are currently using with your 'wish list'.
If you have any open threads, please link them here and I will see if there are any takers.
JEM ... I am not looking to turn this into a thing, but it seems like there is a misunderstanding. Because the discussion I referenced is exactly moving guts. The rotator was not a standalone extension. At least not what I would consider one.... and if that is the case maybe if someone looks at my question differently it might make it easier to get some suggestions on how to approach this. Basically, I want the Panacea template, I just want to change it's frame. To me, I would think that would be easier than Kat's work in getting the rotator into the Zypher template.
