Finding Usefulness in Real World Projects

Posted 14 years 4 months ago
    • I signed on for 1 year, and have been struggling to find ways to use the templates in my projects.

I'm currently working with a company (website client) that wants 'real-estate website functionality' with some open mgmt options for such things as property categories. I'm looking at open-realty.org because I can't see how to use my rock theme subscription for this customer.

I'm also currently working on a website for a pawn shop. They want to advertise items in a cart-like fashion, but without a check-out. They just want to promote the items to draw people into the store. Here again, I'm not sure how to apply the rocket themes to this situation.

The rocket themes are beautiful, and have some really nice features, but can you recommend which ones are most suitable/customizable for the applications/customers I'm currently working on?

      Thanks!

    • Templates are what make your site look the way it looks, extensions are what make your site function the way you want.

A template is 'nothing more' than a 'skin', like a paint job or the trim on a car.

For both sites, you will need some components to get the functionality you want.

The extension at 'open-realty.org' would be one option though there are many to choose from on the JED at joomla.org, extensions.joomla.org/search?q=real+estate

VM might be a good candidate for the content of the second site if used as a 'catalog' and not a 'cart'

(Though there are several other options if you don't actually need all the cart features, a simple Section / Category type setup may be easier to maintain vs. the learning curve of VM)

You could incorporate either of these features in any one of the templates that RT has.

Again, decide on a template, which controls the way the site looks, then choose the proper extensions to get the sites to function as you like.

Thanks JEM! Just needed to get things straight in my head.
      Working with VM now.
There is also a templete out there somewhere called exSell Property - exsellproperty.com/tutorials/exsell-property-installation.html
It looks like it was a rocket theme at one time, and was designed to work with Joomla & VM for real estate sites, but I can't find where to actually download the files. Any ideas?
