    Accepting Payments

Posted 14 years 4 months ago
    • I'm using the versatility template and I would like to be able to accept credit and debit card payments online and how they can be secure transactions? I will be supplying a breakdown recovery service and I also want customers to be able to choose their selection and for each selection to change in price. The more services they choose from a choice of 5, the more the price increases and they get to see the total and if they deselect a service, the price reduces. If there is someone that can advise on this, it will be very helpful.

      The website address is www.redrouteparking.com

      Kind Regards
      Paul

    • Hello Jem, Thank you for the reply. You always seem to provide quick and good advice when I put new posts up. I'm very grateful as you have contributed at least 65% in helping me to get my webiste where it is today. I'm unsure what you mean by creating a dev site. Also is VM the quickcart with all the bells and whistles you have suggested would be easiest to install?

Will I be limited to the payment gateway I can use. I noticed that it only mentioned paypal and google gateways. My payment gateway will be supplied from Sage UK. So will this mean I will not be able to use Quickcart.?

    • 'dev site' = development site = a site that you develop what you want on your site without impacting the live site.

It's never advisable to add untested components to a live site and try to configure them.

E.g., you want a shopping cart but you are not sure what to choose, others want galleries(etc.), but don't know which component will fit their needs exactly.

So, you create a development site by making a copy of your current site.

We usually suggest using Akeeba to do so.

Then you create a dev site with the back up on local host or a sub folder of your host (if you are creating the dev site on your host, remember you will need a new DB).

You can test and develop on the dev site and when you are ready to go, apply the changes to the live site.

The best thing about a dev site is you can make changes and mistakes with impunity, i.e., experiment and learn w/o taking the live site down if you make a mistake...

Yes, that is correct, if RQC doesn't meet you exact needs "as is" then you should choose another cart solution, VM or otherwise.

    • I've looked into sage payment gateway and eway. Both seem like they would provide a gateway to accept online payments which means (I think) I may not need to use the quickcart or DT Register from Joomla, would this be right?
