Layout (InternetGazette) + Menu system (GlobalBiz) + bits from other templates?

Hello!
Please could someone give me some advice as to how I can combine the article and page layout in the Internet Gazette template with the 2-level menu system from the GlobalBiz template?
I'd also really like to have the actual sections on the "other" menu system (the main menu used in the GlobalBiz template) to have the colour-coded highlighting like in the GeoSync template, along with the fading image header background that is used in the ModernBusiness template, but this isn't so critical.
A tall order? I don't think so - but I really can't get my head around the way these templates are put together. I don't know how to take the parts from different templates and put them together; when I open up the index.php files, there are only layer tags for most of the items - with no obvious detail about the design, and when I open up the css files, I don't seem to see anything there either! ???
