    • Is there a set procedure to convert a 1.5 component to 1.6? Is there some sort of component converter extension?

    • Don't think so. I think you will need to do it manually.
      But i don't recommend switch to 1.6.

    • No, it's up to each developer to convert the extension and make them compatible.

(RT is working an all their templates and extensions.)

If you are using 3rd party components (or RT extensions) you will have to wait until we or they have completed the conversion process.

    • Thanks for the info. :) And what if the support is so slow for a particular extension, a common problem I think, that you can't really wait a couple of years for it to be updated? Isn't there a like a "conversion" manual, or something similar?

You will need some extensive joomla knowledge to convert someone elses extension. There are several topics on freelance forums about this. But it costs a good amount of money.

      I'd just wait....

As I mentioned, RT is working behind the scenes to convert all their template and extension.

But as a moderator (or team member) for RT, there is no way we could even begin to handle or focus on even the top five extensions...

No, AFAIK, there is no, 'conversion manual', as each developer is different.

Again, speaking of the 'top five', yes, in some cases it does take years for some developers to upgrade their components to the latest version...

I had to wait over 2 years before a developer of a particular component created a version that ran in J1.5 without using Legacy mode, and when the released it, it became a commercial (not free component).

Joomla is free, but if you are in a hurry, you may need to get a developer that can do what you want, otherwise, patience is a virtue.
