My Crystalline site just died on me

Posted 14 years 3 months ago
    • Hi
When I access my site www.screwbeingfat.com , I get an error saying 'Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL'. I checked with my hosting company and they say that the problem is with my Joomla or my rocketheme template. Could anyone please help me on this issue. Thanks in advance.
      Sushant

      Update
I solved the database connect problem, which was simply a bad password issue, but I still continue to face the problem of some random Joomla page showing up on my homepage when I access the site.

    • Following the link, seems you've run a standard Joomla install and applied Hybrid to it at this point?
    • Thanks,

    • Actually, I hosted a new site yesterday www.healthhungama.com with the Hybrid template but made absolutely no changes to my older site www.screwbeingfat.com which has been functioning for many months and uses the Crytalline template. I do use the same hosting company for both sites
I dont know what I did wrong, but ever since I hosted the new site with the Hybrid template, the older site has this Joomla interface on the front end when I log in.
I can still get into the backend succesfully at www.screwbeingfat.com/administrator

Please help as I am not much of a tech person honestly.

    • Hi there,

This problem seems less of a template issue and more of a site setup issue.

So are you hosting two domains on the same hosting account?
Did you set the new domain up as an addon domain?
Or did you use your account control panel to just set up another Joomla installation?
If so did you set it up in its own directory?

Yes I am hosting two domains on the same hosting account.
I used the account control Panel to upload the Rocketlauncher versions of both sites as separate Joomla installs.
Yes the installs were done in their own separate directory. I have 4 sites hosted on the same domain and all are in separate directories in the public folder that my host provided.

I am also able to log into the back end of www.screwbeingfat.com/administrator and all the site data is fine...its just the front end that is showing some data which is not my home page.

I look forward to your guidance on what to do. Please let me know if I need to PM you the backend username and PW for the site. Thanks

    • Hi there,

Can you PM me with a temporary Super Admin access please and I will take a look to see what the cause may be.

      Thanks :)

    • Hi there,

The content in the backend of the site is the demo content from Hybrid. There are a couple of menu item changes but they lead to demo content too.

The configuration.php doesn't display the database name but I suggest you check both sites and make sure that you haven't put the wrong information during setup. Remember that the databases are in a separate folder to all of your site files so you cannot use the same name twice as you will overwrite the existing database.

Use your hosting control panel to check both databases to see if they have same content. Check database and user names and make sure that each site configuration.php has the correct information. It may also be a good idea to make sure that the configuration.php file in each site also has the 'livesite' field completed in case this is a redirect problem.

      Hope this helps 8)

    • I guess the problem is that I may have overwritten my old database when I was setting up the new Joomla install for the new site.
Do I create separate databases for separate sites that I host ? In the control panel of the hosting provider, the database name was the same even if accessed from the separate domain folders. Should the database names have been different and is this something I should take up with the Hosting service.
I am not a technophile, so apologies if these questions seem too basic, but I would really like to get this resolved once and for all. Secondly, If I have overwritten the older database by mistake, would there be any way to recover that data...it would be a pity to lose that data because I have populated the site for over six months now....and Yes, I did not back up the site....stupid me.
