    • Hi there,

Yes - You should have a different database for every site.

Most hosting providers do a weekly backup. Ask your host to check if they have a back up of your previous setup and database.

First rule of any major web work is to take a backup

      Hope this helps 8)

    • 1 db = 1 'site'

      1 folder = 1 'site'

You can create multiple 'sites' on on domain, but each requires its own folder and DB.

For example, if you have joomla installed in the root (public_html or htdocs) and are using 'DB1', if you want another install, you need to have a separate folder and DB for the second and subsequent installs, public_html/2 or htdocs/2 and DB2, etc.

We always suggest A) Never developing on a live site B) making a full back Up of your site before making any major changes.

    • Thanks guys for all your help. truly appreciated. I realized that I made the classic Rookie mistakes like not having seperate folders, overwriting the old database and of course the Rookiest of them all...not backing up my website data.

Have learned my lessons the hard way but better late than never. All I want to say is that this is an amazing support forum and you guys were prompt in posting replies...you guys are awesome. thanks again :)
