Ok, I will try to write this as best as possible. I have had this idea for a while, and earlier I was going through some of the templates on here and really liked the large "underlying"? graphic style that Quantive is using.
I currently have the meridian template customized to my liking. One of the features I was looking to integrate into my site was this large underlying graphic that seems to sit behind the main content of the site. Would anyone be able to tell me if this kind of functionality is possible with the meridian template, or is it going to be a pain.
I have so many design "ideas" yet do not understand how to go about implementing them into these templates. 2 of the links below have similar examples of things I'm interested in, in addition to the quantive background.
They both contain graphical assets traveling outside divs and such. Now, I know how to do this between modules and static sites with slicing techniques, but how do I go about creating this kind of design with a dynamic site like joomla! Lets say I wanted a graphic to stretch from the footer, to the header, and maybe travel outside of the 960px grid, but only on certain pages! Can anyone point me in the right direction here? I'm familiar enough with all of the code to manipulate whats there and get things to work, just have no "operational"? knowledge.
whew, I hope someone can help, because I've been at this for quite some time hehe.
Hate to rain on your parade, but since no one else has responded...
Quantive is Gantry based, Meridian is not.
To mix and match the features from one template to the next, especially from Gantry to non-Gantry, is not really something we can do as normal support... it would take a developer or moderator away from the board for a day or more; the main focus of support is to get your template working if there is an issues, not custom coding.
One of Andy's replies to a similar inquiry are here:
Hi Jem, thanks for your response. Maybe you didn't read my entire post. To my knowledge, the type of background effects I am speaking of is implemented in templates long before gantry became, it simply a matter of understanding which module is being loaded where, and targeting it with css. My question happened to reference a gantry vs non-gantry template, but the feature isn't gantry specific. If you look at either of the links I've posted, they are performing the effect with wordpress.
What I am asking, is how am I able to target and load multiple *.php files(say multiple footer.php's) that have different designs. I'm not asking for anyone to hold my hand or develop it for me, I'm more then capable, just asking for an idea to run with. By trade I am a Linux administrator that has a good understanding css and a beginner level knowledge of php. I could make this work with a static site, but with joomla there are so many files referencing each other, it becomes puzzling on where to look. Does this describe my situation better?
On another note, I just read Andy's post and complete understand the moderators not having time to baby sit each and every customers request on customizing a template. In respect to that, I am not asking for them to figure out anything for me, I love to do the work and learn. In my current situation, I am left not knowing what I should learn more of. php? joomla? css? all 3?
I'm not asking for the world, just a boat to find my way
You mention a customised Meridian template so it is pointless me looking at a standard install. Can you please post a link to the problem and we will do our best to assist you.
Without a link to your site it is quite hard for us to provide the best solution due to so many variables.
Thanks
