    Trouble with Rocketlauncher installation

Posted 14 years 2 months ago
    • Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance for the vagueness of this question, but I'm still hoping someone can help me out! I'm new to CMS and new to Rockettheme, and am in the process of launching my first website. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get to square one. I read through the tutorial on using Rocketlauncher and moved a copy of all the files in the Rocketlauncher directory to the root directory of my website using ftp. I confirmed that 'everything is there', yet when I enter my url ( www.etegl.org ), I get this error:

'The requested URL / was not found on this server.'

Can anyone help me understand what could be going on?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm a quick learner, and only post when I get really stumped, so please bear with me as I work my way through the Joomla learning curve!

      - Carsten

    • When you FTPed your files to the server did you type in a URL ( www.etegl.org ) or an ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx?

Is this a new domain name ( www.etegl.org ) that you just bought, or have you had it for some time?

If you just put up a single HTML page can you go to it?

    • Hi JRW, thank you for the reply, and thanks for the tip. It's a URL that used to have a FrontPage website on it that I created a year ago. From your suggestion, I created a simple webpage and uploaded it, but I cannot access it. I guess I need to talk to my hosting company!

I appreciate the excellent troubleshooting suggestion.

I know, I know, but some of us 'middle agers' are slow to pick up on the new fancy shmancy tools you young whipper-snappers are coming up with :cheesy:

    • Have you setup that domain name on that hosting account?

    • Hi DS,

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I have confirmed that the domain name is set up on my host. I can log in just fine, use their FTP program, etc. As I mentioned, I have had a Frontpage website on this host / URL for about a year.

    • I assumed this was fixed. What did your hosing company say? Did you send an FTP login to prim?

It would certainly seem like either the DNS is not pointing to the appropriate box OR your files aren't in the right folder.

    • Something is messed up on your server. Possibly something is wrong with the .htaccess.

I see some links on the server which doesn't work. I get this message:

      Command: RETR public_html
Response: 550 Failed to open file.
      Error: Critical file transfer error

If i put an index.html file anywhere on the server it's also 2not found" so i guess you have to talk to the webhost.
