How to get breadcrumbs to work with non-menu item

I have the hive mind template not that I think that makes any difference to this query.
I have a link in an article that launches another article in the same (current) window, but in the new page the launch page does not show up in the breadcrumbs so visitors can't use them to get back to it.
I don't want the new page to appear on the (single) menu; however I did try that as a test (created it as a sub menu under the launch page which is on the menu) but that didn't create a breadcrumb either.
Can I make those pages appear in breadcrumbs?

same prob using omnicron and non main menu items can not have breadcrumb, this like hell.
i have some section/category in main menu and some are not but i want breadcrumb for all, and its working till section which is not part of main menu, categoried article is not displaying THE breadcrumbs
