SOLVED RT Support Has Been Sucking For Me

    • I have always been happy with the level of support from RT. They are normally on the case quickly if the topic is related to direct support to a template.

And if you ask politely they are usually happy to help you solve problems that are not directly related. A small "Please" can go a long way. Many firms would say something unhelpful like:

Im sorry, that is not a feature of this template and therefore we cannot offer support....or something along those lines.

keep up the good work RT 8)

    • Usually when I post a request I solve it myself immediately after posting  However for the problems I have not solved, the team and community here has always come through for me...sometimes I just have to remind myself that it will take a day or two.

Everyone here, especially pro designers, is busy busy, I understand that. So I just want to give a big thanks to everyone. You help my business look good :)

This is something that I believe most of us experience more than we care to admit. :D

    • As a paying member myself (mostly a lurker on the forums), and wide use of the RT designs and tools, I want to say thank you to the staff and mods for their work. I also spend a lot of my work hours in customer service (as a manager) and often face similar situations. Asking a question in a polite, informative post goes a long way.

From the support I have needed, I always got an answer. It wasn't immediate, but if you implement web sites correctly, you should always test bed things first before going live right? Just a thought.

If I need immediate results, googleing the error or parts of the error could lead to the answer in some sort of fashion. A little research and self help goes a long way. A little duct tape on a seam fixes the problem until you can get a replacement part... eh?

I too am guilty of that one.

Then like I said, it might help if you guys put out a note asking for forum assistance. Some people don't have much to do during their days and will just do it out of their own good hearts for no pay.

Please may I ask where it says 'put out a note asking for forum assistance'? Also, can someone tell me how to put out such a note?

I posted a question about a problem with contacts that's been giving me a lot of worry and wasted time, but despite fourteen people apparently looking at it, no-one replied. I've revisited the issue and fixed it myself - at last. I'll take the trouble to post the solution on my question later today, in case someone else has the same problem and no-one bothers to help them either.

      This is the post:

Unfortunately, I feel that some people who have complained about lack of support in the 'RT Support Sucks' thread have a point. I wish it were otherwise.

      Best wishes
      Tony

It's not always the template... many times it's a problem with the server configuration.
      Dear JEM,

      Thank you for your reply.

As I said in my original posting, the problem does not lie with my server. In the Parameters/ Global Configuration for the Contacts Module, at the bottom of the page there are two options:

Session Check [which checks for the existence of a session cookie, without which Users without cookies will not be able to send emails]
      and:

Custom Reply [which turns off the automated reply allowing for Plugins to handle integration with other systems]

When I set both of those options to 'No', my contact forms work fine.

      Best wishes
      Tony
