Updating a template

- I am trying to update a template. Presently I am using the January Sporticus template and I would like to update it to V2 suckerfish, etc. When I try to upload it to my site I get an error. While this may sound like a dumb question (I'm learning all this stuff) should I first delete the existing template before I upload the newer version? Thanks in advance for the help.
