Create a smaller, more compact template

    • While I love the huge big formats of the current designs, I wish that Rockettheme would develop some designs with a smaller, more compact footprint on the welcome page. The May template, Nebulae is beautiful, but like all of the rest of templates in the past year, take up a huge amount of space for menus, section headers, lists and other module functions. A site built with Nebulea (Entropy, Marcado, Maelstrom, Paradox, Hubrid, etc) seem desinged for use on a 22" monitor or for gaming sites. Syndicate has been the only template in the last year that could be easily modified to a smaller footprint fit well within the standard laptop screen. Panacea might qualify, but it still uses a lot of real estate at the top for the logo, and for menus and subheaders.

Yes, I know that I can minimixe the number of modules used, not use the headers and modify other aspects of the designs to minimize the footprint, but does every Joomla Club template have to look the same - big graphics, big logos, big menus, double spacing between list, huge footers and so on? Most of my clients prefer a home page with small menus and limited data, to serve as a gateway to the rest of the site rather than extensive text and graphics. It would be nice to have a design that didn't call for so much scrolling on the welcome and didn't have a log-in box that that is bigger than a cell phone. I am not trying to complain, just making a suggestion. Thanks.

    • Hi,

Thanks for your comments. Demos by their very nature must demonstrate as much of the functionality that a given template has to offer. As you said a site implementer can choose to use as little or as much of that real estate as they deem necessary. Obviously we are only talking north-south real estate as all RT template are on the 960 grid system and have been for quite some time now.

Somaxiom, Omnicron, Syndicate, Tachyon (using the Fusion), Paradox, Maelstrom all have rather narrow menus, that is six out of the last 12 released.

One HUGE bonus of the Gantry templates is that you can set the body and/or background levels on "Low" to remove much of the high-end graphics and then have a nice clean template for sites that need such a template.

So thanks for your comments. I just wanted to share one mods perspective on them. Btw, jfyi, the "Requests" forum is a better place to post such suggestions (just for future purposes). The Dev Team does read that frequently for input and really does act on much of what is placed in that forum. This really lets everyone contribute to the shape of future templates and extensions.
