Site not loading unless index.php specified

I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple but can't seem to figure this one out.
I moved a site (Deminsion light j1.5 ) from a sub domain to top domain on the same host and same user. The site was working fine on the sub domain but now when I try to open all I get is the favicon and a blank page. However if I specify index.php the sites loads as it should.
I've checked the configuration.php but can't see anything wrong - live site is correct home folder, database host and user correct.

Can someone give any suggestions?

Fixed. Thanks for the suggestion although that wasn't the problem. Appearantly there was a default.html file in the root directory. No idea where that came from. Deleted it and now the site loads fine.
