General Joomla Question: Email notification for content/links?

All,
Here's a general question for you Joomla gurus out there. Is there any way to have Joomla send an email notification when new content has been submitted to a site? I haven't found anything in the documentation; perhaps there's a custom component/module/bot that you know of?

Jonathan, that's exactly what I wanted to find out yesterday and couldn't find anything on either the Mambo or Joomla extensions sites.

- Sue, I've done some searching myself and come up empty. It seems like something that would really be needed; I'm actually surprised it's not in the base install. Hopefully someone else will chime in with help.

- There are a fair few Newsletter components out there, not sure if they are automated as I have never touched them. Keep scanning extensions.joomla.org. If there is anything, it would be there.

Jonathan I haven't been able to find anything really (except the newsletter-ish type things - but using them would mean that you'd have to send notification more or less by hand).
I really do remember something along these lines from the early mambo days. Of course, I could be just barking mad.
