    Stupid SEF Question

Posted 13 years 10 months ago
    • I am working on a site (not my first) but for some reason I am drawing a blank on how I've solved this problem in the past. The site is www.2kgcontractors.com (Joomla site not visible). I left the old site up and started building the new site under www.2kgcontractors.com/site ...

I turned the mod_rewrite on in the global settings. I renamed htaccess.txt to .htaccess. But the links aren't working. Then I remembered the live_site in the configuration file. So I set that to reference that the joomla folders weren't under root. Nothing.

When I turn the rewrite off I notice the url when clicking on the links adds "/index.php/" and then the pages work. What did I do and how do I solve it? Thanks!

    • This is just a straight up joomla configuration thing. There are only 2 steps:

      1) rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess (you may need to edit this file, but often it works as is)
      2) enable SEF AND mod_rewrite options in the global config.

I did those steps and did them again....not working.

    • This is really a Joomla thing and not template-related.
Not sure what we could do more than pointing to the official docs?
That would be the exact steps we would go through too.
If this does not work it can easily be a corrupt install – nothing we can really debug.
We don't even know if you are using Joomla 1.7 or 1.5 or if installed it in a subdirectory.
I suggest to go for a local install and check if that works.
If that does work and it doesnt work on your webspace I suggest to contact your host.

    • @8trackmedia please make sure that you have a "Default" menu item for the test site

Ensure that you have a valid home page defined in your website directory

    • Thx Henning. Everything else works on my site...I have no other hosting issues--I really dont think that is the issue....I am using 1.5 Joomla...Honestly, I would really like someone to have a look....if it isn't you than perhaps we should both look elsewhere - no offense intended...thx for your comments

Cdavis - can you pm me for me to give you the admin rights? I am not even sure what your comment means? (I don't have default menu items anymore)

Sorry -- just frustrated with this--seems so simple.
