in the URL above the id=118 is article number 118, and Itemid=475 is the menu item you want highlighting or to appear in breadcrumbs, you can also add in category/section ID's also to complicate things further.
You can't use the URL you see in the admin area, that is ONLY for the admin area. Just alter the URL I mentioned above to include the article and menu ID's and you should be good to go.
P.S. - I added some extra spaces into the URL to stop it breaking apart, there should be none in the real url.

i took out the "administrator" part
my links look like this--I can ONLY take it from the administrator area because I dont know where else to actually see the article. I dont want it on the front page....so where else is it?
I see Article ID: 90.... but i dont see the item id anywhere?
I feel like I am making the wrong type of article or something...
i tried the building the links (in the read more button) your way as well...the article id is 90 (i assume) --i do see a section id? -1???
I figured it out since your offer to have a look (thx again!)
I had to publish the article to the front page so that I could see the article AND the article's link...I then copied that link into the read-on button...and took the article down from the front page again...
Not that it matters now...but is there another way to do this?? Oh well...it worked.
Guess I will try the SEF components that you suggested next....can't wait.
