RSS Feeds - Display News Articles

  • RSS Feeds - Display News Articles

    • Hi everyone,
I'm still a greenhorn to a lot of this stuff - I'm trying to figure out how to place news articles on my site.
I'm not trying to create a blog on my own website that I wish to share with others through an rss feed, (although I'd like to learn how to do that too, but not right now) - I want to display news of a certain topic on my website. I know of news websites that have feeds that are acceptable for my site, but I'd also like to look at learning how to create my own with my own search terms as well if that is possible.
How does it all work? Lots of websites display news articles from news sources - surely they don't just steal those articles and post it on their site as their own? What do I do? Can someone help me understand how all this stuff works, and give me some help to get it set up?
      -Thanks-
      Scott

    • Hi everyone again,
Just an update on my first post. I've solved my first issue. One of the other members sent me to the JED where I found Feed Gator. I've got it installed and it seems to work good. I've got news articles from the feed now displaying on my site, but the pages look ugly and messy.
Will I need to format each article individually as I import them to make the pages look good?
I notice that the imported images from the feed do not have the nice rounded borders that other images in my articles do, (Modulus-Joomla16) the rectangular boxes that display title text doesnt always fit together evenly between articles on a single page, and the photos and intro texts could be repositioned better in the article in relation to each other. Also the "read more" links in the full article mode display a long url and not a button. This may be a setting as the first time I set it up I didn't import the full feed. I'll Check this. Does anyone have any ideas or tips that might help me format all this imported info so it looks better? (Its the headings that dont line up properly I'm really worried about) Also does anyone have any info about whether or not and if so how I could now create my own feed (to send my site news stories) based on particular search terms I set - so that technically I'd be recieving news stories from my own feed that I set up to get news stories based on my own search criteria?
Thanks in advance to any responses,
      - Scott
