What is the proper method to update templates and extensions. Would you:
a. Uninstall old version and then reinstall latest version
b. Install latest version via regular installation method in Joomla
c. For templates, would you use ftp to transfer new files to replace older ones, or use Joomla installation method.

Hi, it depends on your situation. If you have made modifications to your template files, then the only answer is C. It's the only way to prevent losing your changes and settings. Just upload the changed files listed in the changelog.
If you haven't made any modifications and you don't mind re-doing your template settings you can do A.
B is not possible, you won't be able to install if there is already an identical template directory, Joomla won't let you. - The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

For extensions, check the documentation for each... case by case, for some you can FTP the new files overwriting the old ones, for others you need to uninstall / reinstall. - Thanks,
