How to Deactivate Dropdown Feature

  • How to Deactivate Dropdown Feature

Posted 13 years 9 months ago
    • Hi,

I am using Quantive, and I need to deactivate the dropdown and splitmenu altogether. I want to have just one clean menu line with nothing more.

Whenever I create nested menus in Joomla, a dropdown menu appears (or a split menu depending on the gantry "menu>type" option)

I dont need the drop down, because I dont want people jumping to submenus without accessing the parent menu page.

      Thanks.

    • The simple answer is to not use sub-menu items in your main menu. You could create additional menus to use on the individual pages.

Another alternative would be to deactivate the menu in the template settings, then create your menu using the module manager and a RokNavMenu module. In the module settings you can specify the number of levels shown by the menu. Hope that helps.

    • I need sub-menus for my breadcrumbs to display right. Do you know any other way to nest pages so that they show right in the breadcrum navigation? If there is a way, I could apply your first suggestion.

Regarding the RokNavMenu, I dont want to install more extensions because not even Gantry is working well in my site at the time (Gantry does not save some changes). So I dont want more gear in my site right now.

I thought of a workarround that would be:
      1. Selecting the menu type to "split-menu" so that there is no dropdown animation
      2. styling out the "inverted hat" icon/image on the menu via CSS
      3. configuring the "Gantry >Menu >Submenu position" option to something that does not show.

Can you recommend me a safe submenu position that would now show in any browser?

      Thanks.

    • Hi, you already have RokNavMenu installed, otherwise your menu would not work. What I'm suggesting is an alternate way of using what you already have, it is the only way to limit the menu items that are shown.

Look in your template settings under "Menu" to find the module position your menu is using. Make a note of it then switch the menu to off. Go into your module manager, create new module, choose RokNavMenu, set the position to the the same one you made a note of. On the right, choose the menu you want to use, and you can choose the number of levels that are shown below that - set limit levels to yes and set both numbers to 1. Choose the fusion menu option from the menu theme. That should give you the same menu only showing 1 level. Hope that helps.

    • Hi, your solution worked very well except for one issue.

I limited the levels to 0, and the dropdown is not showing anymore. Of course what shows is the small icon at the side of the menu name (filenames; "menutop-daddy.png" and "menutop-active-daddy.png").

So I styled out the icon by commenting line 132 and 133 in the light-body.css, and it worked well in most browsers (IE8, Firefox5, and Chrome13) but not in IE9. Any suggestion on why Internet Explorer 9 is not reading the changed CSS?

      Thanks.

    • UPDATE: It was a problem of cache. Now the menu is working exactly as intended in all browsers tested.

      Thank you very much Cliff.
