    Edit PSD File

Posted 18 years 2 months ago
    • Okay I downloaded the November PSD File.

1 - If I edit colours text etc in Photoshop (I'm a MAC User) and then open in Fireworks. . .

What do I export? I don't see slices.

How do you export to the image folder and replace the current images maintaining the correct naming convention?

I tried this in Imageready but there were no slices.

Basically - What are the steps to editing a PSD file and then replacing the files in
      the image folder without re-slicing?

    • Use the PNG file if you are using Fireworks. Turn on the "Web Layer" to see the slices.

    • Thanks I found the slices . .

How do you maintain the naming convention,
do I have to manually export each slice?

    • Hi Andy
I know you are busy with the new Jan template ;)

However I am sad to report I've failed. After exporting all the slices (OMT) and keeping the naming conventions, I ftp'd the images folder and the site became a grey blob with no header??

For my own sanity I need to lick this challenge. Any ideas what I did wrong?

    • Were you able to browse the images ok before you uploaded? did they look alright? other than that, are you sure you sent the files in binary? ie, the files didnt get munged during the transfer? Perhaps a screenshot or url would help.

    • Sorry it took so long to reply - I am having a server "issue" day ???

      Here is a screen shot

I right clicked on each green slice and exported them to the images folder using the same name as the exisiting slices one at a time as you suggested.

As you can see, all I just want a black background and a header logo and graphic
Is it possible to have the slices numbered or named in the .png file?

    • Hi Colin

opening psd files with all the slices, itis a bit confusing if you not familiar cause there are many options under export menu.
if you want to adjust the header, just open the very exact header images under templates folder.
adjust the graphics to your liking then flatten the image.
Save it exactly as it was formated jpg or png.

i will open psd file if i need to change the layout or the dimention of the graphic.

hope this give you another alternative

    • Thanks

If I wanted to use the entire header for a graphic in this template - is that something I can do , reslice?

Now it has 3 slices - logo, bkgrd and right corner. If I wanted the whole header as an image - how much work is that?
