best payment method for ECWID?
Posted 13 years 7 months ago
Hi Guys
I have a client who now has ECWID as a chosen method for a shop.
He does not wish to use paypal for payments, for many different reasons...
So what is the next best payment method people will recommend?
He wants users to be able to checkout very easily using any visa, credit or debit card without much charges involved.
Well, unfortunately, if you would like to use credit cards there will be charges involved. You need a merchant account which can run $150+ a year for starters, and usually there are transaction fees as well. I wish it was free too, but it just isn't.
Low cost - Paypal and Google checkout are about your only options.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.
They also support Sage Pay and of course Sage are UK based in the north east.
I might be wrong, but I believe authorize.net have a UK friendly offering.
If your client already has a Merchant Account for processing credit card payments (retail, card holder not present, mail order etc), some Payment Solution Providers can work with this and can sometimes reduce processing fees and speed up the time it takes for funds to reach your clint's bank.
On the last point, do look into how long the Payment Solution Provider holds onto your client's money. I don't know about now, but in the past RBS Worldpay for example held your money for up to five weeks, which can cripple cash-flow.
I use google checkout for ecwid, and have absolutely no issues with it at all for uk payments and usa payments.
I also have google checkout set up to transport any invoices I raise in google checkout into orders in my ecwid, to make it easier to keep track of all orders going through too.
