Can I host a Joomla site on unix server?

The client has a unix based hosting plan with Network Solutions. Can I use that for a Joomla site?
I've uploaded the Camber template but everytime I try to run installer, it says 404 page cannot be found.
Im not familar with htdocs, i assume thats the same as public_html on linux?
