    Failed template upload

Posted 16 years 10 months ago
    • Hi

I'm only just starting to get to grips with Joomla! And I seem to have failed at my first attempt....

I've successfully installed Joomla on a server (but not locally).

I've downloaded the 'Elemental' RocketTheme template.

But when I then try and upload the zip file using installer/templates/site and browsing to the locally stored file on my Mac, I get the error message 'Upload template - Failed. XML setup file is not for a 'template'.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

      Thanks

    • Are you uploading rt_elemenal.tgz?

    • Nope - Joomla_RT_Elemental.zip.
This was the file I downloaded from RocketTheme.

That is a complete Joomla! install, not the template file. Download the template file.

    • Thanks James

Done that... made the template the default... refreshed the site: 241.co.uk/cms/index.php

Not sure how it looks on a PC, but on a Mac in both Firefox and Safari it all falls apart.

I get the feeling I'm embarking on a long and steep learning curve ???

    • The default install of joomla makes a template look undesirable. Unpublish a few of the mainmenu items and the template will fall into place

    • Thanks Mike

I'll persevere and have a play around.

      Can I ask another question?

I want to allow people to log-in and edit their own entries in an online directory of tourist attractions.

Before I go chasing up too many blind alleys, can you tell me whether Joomla! will enable me to do this?

And if it does, are there any templates or modules you'd recommend looking at, rather than Elementis?
