Syndicate Rocket Theme very slow?

Hello,
I have been looking for a flexible theme for the redesign of one of our sites - poultrykeeper.com .
Currently, using Joomla 1.5 and our current host (Dreamhost Private Server) we are getting 7 to 8 seconds page load times. We would like to (ideally) move the site to Wordpress for ease of management and to improve the speed of the site.
I have purchased a subscription and installed the Syndicate theme on our server, however after testing the demo install on Pingdom Tools, we're now seeing 16 to 18 seconds page load times with the Syndicate theme. This would be a backwards step and I was hoping to at least half our load time.
Is there something I can do to speed the Syndicate theme up? Have I missed anything?

- Hi, I loaded up both of your pages and neither one took anywhere near that long to load up - they came right up for me. You can use the RokGZipper and Gantry Cache to expedite loading times as it compresses all the CSS and JS files. I personally didn't see an issue with either of your sites so I'm not sure what other advice I can offer.
- The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

- Dreamhost has never been famous for running websites very fast and I'm not totally convinced that their private server setup actually serves your site without interference from other users. If you have access to another host, I'd try setting up a copy of the site there and see if you notice a difference.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
I've added caching and Amazon Cloud hosting and it's made some improvement but I think I'm still going to have to change hosts too. It seems the same site on a different host is far faster than Dreamhost.
