SOLVED! Which to download?

  • SOLVED! Which to download?

Posted 13 years 7 months ago
    • I am installing a new template, RADIANCE, on our ISP provider using their Joomla 1.5.

Consider this a "geezer" request (Ive never done this myself, usually my partner does it!):

Which download do I use? The RocketLauncher or the STAND ALONE or the BUNDLE?? I need the demo content and it only seemed to be listed with the RocketLauncher. The reason I am somewhat confused is that it seems that the RocketLauncher looks like it installs Joomla?

      HELP!

      Thanks to all.

    • You're right. The RocketLauncher will install Joomla. However its the only way to import all the demo data. If you want it to appear like the demo, you'll have to erase what you have and install the RocketLauncher from scratch.

If you want to add the Radiance theme to an existing site you'll use the Bundle or Stand Alone. The only difference is that the Bundle includes the Gantry framework. Your current site may or may not have Gantry. You can go to the plug in manager to find out if you have it already installed. Do not use the Bundle if you already have Gantry.

    • Thanks, Ben! i think I really screwed it all up lol I used the FANTASTICO tool the site has to load Joomla 1.5 and I got it in the WRONG directory. So thats my first problem!

Assuming I get that taken care of. . . . . . .im still unsure which Radiance to load! I did get joomla to work and could use the install/uninstall if I could only figure out what to do from there.

Usually a friend does this but he has "issues" (read GF, lol) and cant get to it! So I figure NOW is a good time for me to learn. I was doing ok and had joomla working but it you had to go to www.svnfilm.com/public_html to get joomla to come up. So i started moving files and really toasted myself lol Im waiting for the support group at the ISP to come to my rescue.

If i use the RocketLauncher, what do I have to do? Are there instructions anywhere?

    • I would use the RocketLauncher and start from scratch. Instructions here: http://www.rockettheme.com/tutorial-files/joomla15/rocketlauncher-installation.php

You will have to create a SQL database and a database username/password. Your host (hostupon.com) uses cPanel. If you log in to cPanel there should be a link called Video Tutorials. Click there and look for "My SQL - A guide to creating and modifying MySQL databases in cPanel". That video will walk you through that step in the process.

Upload the RocketLauncher file through "File Manager" in to the public_html directory and uncompress it. Navigate to your website and follow the rest of the steps.

    • I got the database all set up (i think!)

Should I unzip BEFORE i use file manager? I assume you mean the FTP utility?

Worse case ill delete the database and recreate a new one. That was easy lol.

Ok so Im going to download the RocketLauncher and go from there.

      Thanks again, Ben

    • The file manager has an "Upload" button on the top menu. You could use ftp as well. I prefer the file manager because it also has an "Extract" utility in the same menu. That will uncommpress the zip file for you inside the public_html directory.

The instructions tell you to unzip all files before you upload and them move them via FTP. The reason is sometimes permissions get messed up through your hosting provider if you remotely unzip them (there are more but this is the most significant one). cPanel's "Extract" utility seems to not have this issue. It's the only way I do it now. I install 3 to 5 instances of Joomla a week. I don't have a lot of time to FTP 2000 files just for a basic install. Remotely extracting it is a lot faster.

    • Ben! Thank you! its UP! Took a lil while, but hey! When youre retired. . . what else am i gonna do?

Another question: When you enter www.svnfilm.com the tab on the site comes up with the Radiance info. How/Where do i change that? This is the kinda thing Dave used to do for me.

      Thanks!

    • The page that appears is the home page. What you see is a combination of articles and modules that are assigned to that page.

If you're not in a hurry you can learn more about them here: http://docs.joomla.org/Beginners
Focus on the Learn to Use Joomla! section. There is a great tutorial on how to modify sample data (that's what you just installed) and even a How To video series.

If you need advanced help you can hire a qualified RT member in The Marketplace forum here: http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=175&rb_v=viewforum
