Site offline except for IP's

Is there any way of having a Joomla site offline except for certain IP's?
This is a feature i found in ECWID which was pretty neat as you can have the site offline for everyone except for specific IP addresses.
I would like this feature as it would be great for building an extranet where i can specify certain offices to get access to the site but not have public access.
I know you can have the site access locked down for only registered users or admins but it doesnt lock it down to a specific office (which is what i want).
In the past i have got past this by writing it into the .htaccess using a DENY FOR ALL and then ALLOW from IP's.

Although I don't know of a plugin that redirects specific IP's to the offline page. Here are a few that will filter IP's and redirect to another URL. Maybe you could set up a custom "offline page".

I was looking around last night but didn't find a method to redirect to the offline page. It got me interested though. I'll keep an eye out and post here if I find something.
