    • Hi,

My current version is joomla 1.5.24. While i started using joomla i installed many components and plugins which i am not using anymore.

I want to do joomla 1.5 fresh install but without loosing present Articles, sections and catageories.

Can i install with rocket launcher in a new folder and connect to the same database ?

Do i loose any links already submitted to search engines?

Please let me know the steps to install in sub folder and work with the new site and then move it to the main domain.

      Thanks in advance.

    • Hi there,

This would not be a good way to solve your problem. All it achieves is clean files but all of the settings are still in the database.

I personally would use Akeeba to create a clone of the site and work on the clone by uninstalling all extensions that I do not require. Add template and any new extensions. Complete any remaining changes and create a backup using Akeeba and restore it to the original directory (after having taken another backup of the original for safety).

If you are using same SEF for both old and new sites then links shouldn't be a problem. If using no SEF then it will be a problem as some links may change. I would check google analytics to see which links were being used and then if necessary create 301 redirects in htaccess.

      Hope this helps 8)
