    • Hi all,

      at the moment I have a customer request for porting their current website to Joomla based on my recommendation. Their current website is based on an individual and exclusivel PHP code including a sophisticated configurator part. I adviced to move to Joomla because I want reduce programming costs for most of the sites parts beside the configurator. At the moment we have to pay for every single change either it is a simple layout change in some part of the website or a major overhaul of the configurator. With Joomla it would be easier to do more stuff on my own. Second big reason would be the support for mobile devices. I think it is much easier to handle with an underlying Joomla than with proprietary code. Beginning of this project would be end of the year.

      Now the question: Should I start this project with the Joomla 1.5 or should i go with 1.7 or even wait what happens next year?

      If you take a look at Joomla release cycle here: www.corephp.com/blog/understanding-joomla-release-cycle/ you will probably understand my concerns. Almost all of my websites still run 1.5 at the moment and probably will do for a long time because the majority of extensions are still not availlable for 1.7.

    • I'm in the same boat, I am sticking with 1.5, hope that the world doesn't end in Dec. 2012, and if it doesn't, then I'll try to figure something out then.

    • Hmm ive moved to 1.7 for a lot of my websites, i find most decent extensions now run 1.6/1.7 and if not they usually have a 1.7 beta released version for getting stuck in :)

      I havent found any issues and i like the new user access options they now have in Joomla 1.7 which is something ive needed in the core code for ages!

      Im very happy with it so far and will be replacing all my 1.5 sites with 1.7 eventually :mrgreen:
