Dedicated Server Corrupts templates & params.ini unwritable

  • Dedicated Server Corrupts templates & params.ini unwritable

    • Greetings all,

From the many similar postings i cannot seem to discern a real fix to this issue... and hoping someone wise can please shed some light on what may be going on or if you can tell me some DUH things i may have done in setting up the server incorrectly....

I need help to fix my server settings or something awry is going on because the joomla templates on both of the test sites do not show the fun and flexible template adjustments that should show up simply because it is params.ini Unwritable...
      Please Help, Full story below....

The story, its a brand new dedicated server with Operating System:
      CentOS 5
      Intel Core 2 Duo - 2.13 GHz
      2 GB ram
it is a sql version above 5.0.39 but not sure
php is 5.1.6, in the process of being upgraded...

SO i have two test sites, one using Camber template and the other using Momentum....
BOTH the test sites have params.ini, as unwritable and despite my efforts to update the controller.php file and others this doesn't go away....
Also, the gantry portion of the template control adjustment features seems to be gone...
BOTH of these test sites used rocketlaunchers to load the sample content and joomla
BOTH are joomla 1.5, as i need to update the php to use 1.7...
The Momentum Template i swapped out the old database from the old server, and thay may be the reason why the homepage goes blank when i default the momentum template...

Thus far i have tried to test tweaking the controller.php within the "com_templates" area under the admin with no luck...going to have a friend help with the SSH part of the permissions on the server but PLEASE any one with experience with dedicated servers PLEASE PLEASE help, i need a solution fast.

      LInks to relevant pages....
Test one ---> www.machaelalouiseseckelman.com/camber -->template shows up on front end but has the break down when i goto adjust settings on backend....
test two with momentum ---> www.machaelalouiseseckelman.com/playtown ---> momentum template will not show... and same loss of editing buttons when going to that template....

Peculiar thing is i can see the other template options, however because of the params.ini unwritable adjustments won't stick unless edited manually...

To summarize...the template will not load and the easy to edit features are no where to be seen on both...AND params.ini unwritable...

      Thanks in advance.
    • Best Wishes and thanks for your help in advance

    • 1. You are running a rather old version of PHP and 5.2.8 or newer is recommended.
      2. You can change the permissions on params.ini to 644 or 646 (via FTP) depending on your server setup.
      3. If you are doing backups, moving sites and such, use Akeeba Backup :)

      I hope this helps.

It's hard to say what's up because i have no FTP or Joomla access but i assume this is caused by permission issues. If you are using Joomla 1.5x go to Help > System info > Directory permissions and check that all options are writable.

Test 2, well you should check you server's error logs for clues. It could be caused by permission issues, php settings and missing files.
