    • I am trying to upload a temporary index.html page on my website but Joomla seems to be set to go to index.php

      I've tried editing the htaccess.txt file by adding this:
      DirectoryIndex index.htm index.html index.php

      But it doesn't seem to have done anything. Is there anywhere else to set the default home page???

    • If you are just trying to test the page you can just use www.yoursite.com/index.html

      What did you put in your .htaccess file?

      Something like this?
      Redirect /index.php yoursite.com/index.html

      I put the following line into the htaccess file:
      DirectoryIndex index.htm index.html index.php

      i need to general public to be directed to the index.html as a temporary landing page until the development is complete. I've done this on a ton of sites before but for some reason now joomla has decided to default to index.php :shock:

      Any thoughts?

      Is the Joomla site on the same server as the others? Same host doesn't always mean the same server. Is anything working in .htaccess? There really isn't anything in Joomla that has to do with .htaccess overrides. It's kind of a server issue. That's why I ask if you are working on the same server or not.

    • okay so I solved it - turns out that the standard file htaccess.txt that comes with joomla just needed to be renamed .htaccess :oops:

      So silly really. Thanks for all of your help.
