How to create a custom module - please help

  • How to create a custom module - please help

Posted 13 years 5 months ago
    • I need to add some custom features to my site and I’m looking for some tips on where to start.
In a few words, I need to give the users the possibility to write their own opinions about airports and airlines (i.e. choose an airport or an airline from a list, assign a vote and a comment).
Then I need to display these reviews in a tabular form. I guess I need to learn how to write my own module, any hints on where to start will be much appreciated.

    • You have a long road ahead of you my friend... you might want to look at Jumi but to do it right, you need to create a component and some modules for it.

May the force be with you

    • Hi Supercharlie, you mentioned Jumi but unfortunately I have no idea of what it is, can you add some more information?

Jumi is a component with modules which allows you to put code like javascript and php into joomla pages without all the hell that trying to do it inside joomla creates with its html stripping.

I do have to say tho that I tried the latest jumi just a few days ago with joomla 1.7 and it didnt work as it used to with 1.5 so it might not be a solution.

I have heard good reviews of a similar type component/module called sourcer which may or may not fit the ticket.

The real solution is to load up a default joomla and learn how to actually create the modules and components. Unfortunately, I have been beating on joomla for over 4 years now and even to me it is one helluva chore.

      good luck!!
