    • Hi all,

Hopefully an easy one and one which I'm slightly embarassed to not know already.

Site appearing nicely in the search engines but there's a rogue one that I didn't know was in the site map:

      www.sitename.com/component/content/frontpage

Joomla! - the dynamic portal engine and content management system.

Not too bothered that it's appearing but I don't know where to edit all the seo stuff, mainly the title.
      Any help greatly appreciated,

      Cheers

    • Hi,

Still not got anywhere on this - it's not on global config settings.

Anybody know how to stop this bit getting indexed or how to change the details? Still can't edit title or meta - I'm normally pretty clued up on joomla SEO and I know all the usual stuff.

      Many thanks!

    • Hi,

It's 1.5 and all bog standard settings - no fancy components or anything.

That link tells me to edit the .htaccess file, putting this in at the end. Given that nobody posted since on that link and that the guy posting only has 2 posts, does that sound like a logical thing to do?

This is the supposed fix -

      Redirect /component/content/frontpage.html http://www.[domain].com

      Cheers

Firstable, I was trying to be sure you have the global configuration settings, you will suprise about the people struggling with basic stuff, that's why always start from the beginning.

Well if you said you already setup your configuration settings and google or search engines still showing your site with "joomla Meta Tag" (if that is your issue) then you should give a few more days to see your changes reflected, in my understanding Google will cache your site again and update the site description (snippet). It could take aproximately a week or two depend on how often Google crawl your site.

Hope this help. even if you change the joomla core, you won't be able to show the new description until search engine update your site.

      Cheers.

    • Hi - we're talking about something totally different and I believe that you've misunderstood me. I appreciate your time, so thank you for your help - I don't want to seem ungrateful.

      To Clarify:

      1. I understand about Joomla SEO and the usual stuff re.global config settings, title pages, how google indexes pages etc.

      2. It is all SEO'd perfectly and works well - the issue is that there is a rogue (incorrect and random) entry in the search engines:

      www.sitename.com/component/content/frontpage

Joomla! - the dynamic portal engine and content management system.

      3. It does not match the global configu details & I don't know where to find to change or deactivate in Joomla.

Hope that's clearer & thanks again!

    • With regards to where that text actually is, without knowing more info like the template etc its hard to say where or why it's appearing. I'd check within the .ini files if you haven't found it anywhere else obvious.

As for the redirect, you'll need to do this:

      redirect index.php/component/content/frontpage.html www.yourdomain.com/index.php

As was mentioned above, this change will NOT show up in Google until the next time it re-indexes your site which could be weeks. You would also need to go into Google and remove that URL from their index or it will remain for a long time but you can only do this after a change or a redirect is in place.
