Problem with Article/Modules

    • I am having a very weird problem with my "Driving Directions" article. I sent two images to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and they refused to help and I cannot post images to show the problem but sometimes when I go to the page, the page looks fine, yet other times I go to the page, the footer and sidebar A moduels don't show up and the word "Articles" appears above the article title. The page I am talking about is: andersboyettandbrady.com/index.php/compo...39-drivingdirections

From what I can tell, it seems the very first time I click the link it works correctly, but after I leave and come back to the page it messes up.

On a separate matter (might be related), everytime I place a <script> tag for Google driving directions in the Driving Directions page, whenver I go back into the page to make edits, the code disappears and I have to repaste everytime. Any idea as to how I can fix it so that the script tag stays on the page when I go in and make edits?

      Thanks!

    • A: the page you are showing is not linked to a menu-item. That's why it shows no modules. You need to create a new menu-item of the type "Single Article" and assign modules to it.
If you want to show modules with "unlinked" articles you can use the "advanced module manager" from nonumber.

B: to get rid of the word "article" in articles ...
      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=53..._v=viewtopic#p702394

C: script should be stripped by Joomla. To use script tags in content-artcles use
      www.nonumber.nl/extensions/sourcerer
Be sure to set "text-filtering" to "no filtering" for superadmins in article-manager>options.
I suggest to use our RokPad-Editor (I use nothing else)

      I hope this helps ...

    • Thanks! Any idea why the modules show up and the word "article" at the top shows up sometimes and not other times? Also, I tried linking to a menu item already in an attempt to solve the problem and that did not work. It was still correct sometimes and other times it did not show the modules. Could that be because the menu item was unpublished? I don't want "Driving Directions" to be listed in the menu so I left the actual menu item unpublished. But again, it did not fix the problem. I am going to try it again and see what happens.

As far as the word "Article" appearing at the top of the page, it is only happening on the Driving Directions article. All other articles do no have that word at the top. just wanted to point that out as it seemed in the post you pointed me to above, everyone was having this problem on every article on their site which I am not.

Thanks for the tip on the Sourcer. Will download and install now.

    • again ...
link it to a menu item!
This doesn't have to be main menu. create a new "hidden menu" for that.
      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=26..._v=viewtopic#p750877
(different topic ... but it explains how to create hidden menu. Basically its about creating a hidden menu without publishing the module for it)

All other articles are linked to menu-items hence my answer ...

    • I understand that it is a problem because it is not linked to a menu item. However, I was still curious as to why it works sometimes and not other times. I am trying to learn everything I can about these templates and Joomla in general and thought the answer to the question "why does it work on and off as opposed to NOT working every time" could be educational as well and help me better understand the inner workings of Joomla. Thanks for the help. I really apprecaite you taking the time to respond. Will let you know if linking to a menu item fixes it.

    • Henning, although I greatly appreciate your assistance, you seem to be committing a fallacy of reasoning in your response. Specifically you have invoked the fallacy of division argument. The fallacy of division occurs when one makes the assumption that because the whole has a certain property, it is argued that the parts of the whole also have that property.

My statements characterizing the use of forums in place of true support as "lazy and unprofessional" does not in any way mean that every person that provides support on the forum is lazy and unprofessional. That is where the fallacial reasoning comes into play and is incorrectly inferred. I am sorry you took my statements in my other post personally but I assure you that I did not have you in mind when I wrote that post. The only point I was making was that the decision to only offer support at the forum level has been inadequate in solving problems for not just me, but for many RT customers. I stand by my statement that to not offer true support for one's products is either lazy, unprofessional, or both; however, I want to again stress the point that does not mean that I believe everyone that assists people in the forum is lazy and unprofessional...just as not every complaint made about RT support constitutes one being categorized as a "forum troll".

As far as the fix you suggested, it did not work. I created a new menu and added a menu item called "Driving Directions" and indeed now when I go to the modules I want to show up on that page, I DO see Driving Directions as one of the check boxes. However, it still works off and on. f you see it wrong every time, you might try closing your browser, going to my home page, and clicking on the Driving Directions link in the footer. Typically it works the FIRST time you do it. But when I go to other pages on the site and then go back to Diving Directions, that is when none of the modules are showing up. I am going to try just deleteing the page I created and rebuilding it to see if that fixes the problem. Again, thank you for your assistance. I really appreciate the help.

    • Well I take that back about it working the first time you open the browser. That is what it was doing BEFORE I linked the page to a menu item. Now that I have linked the page to a menu item, it consistently does not work correctly. Hopefully rebuilding the page from scratch will solve the problem.

    • You can send me superuser user/pass via PM for your site before you rebuild everything.
Let me try to set up correctly ...(at least as I think how you want it to look :-) )
The link on the frontpage needs to be changed to the new "hidden" menu-item ...

I think RocketTheme is a prime example of greed combined with laziness.
They want our money to join the club yet they are too lazy to support their product.

    • THANK YOU! Actually although I added the hidden menu item like you suggested, I did not realize I had to also change the link in the footer to the menu item. That seems to have fixed the problem. Again, sorry for the confusion re: the other post as you have been most helpful.

As far as the other issue, I have installed, but not yet tried the sourcer plugin you suggested. Will let you know if that works but even if it doesn't I can live with re-adding the script tag each time I make changes to the page if I have to. Hopefully it will work though. Thanks again.
