    Topic title length issue with RT themes

    Posted 13 years 4 months ago
    • I know that a lot of you guys aren't particularly ambitious with regard to addressing support issues here, but if someone could help me with this I'd sincerely appreciate it.

      I have my max topic title length set above the default 60 characters, which works fine in prosilver/subsilver etc. Yet, in the RT themes, while it allows me to post topics of the length I specified in my mod, it doesn't render them visible, they simply continue beneath another graphic layer so that you can't see rest of the topic title. Explanatory images attached. Ok, they aren't attached, you wont let me attach anything larger than 512, I'll just link to images. Thanks in advance.

      Here's prosilver, with the extended topic length displaying how it's supposed to:

      Here's how it displays, to varying degrees, on RT themes:

    • I have followed the instructions for this mod as listed here: www.phpbbsmith.com/articles/bb3-increase-subject-length.html

      Yet the RT themes I'm using- replicant2, quantive, and refraction are all lacking posting_editor.html and posting_body.html files in the template folder for the last step. Although I'm unsure if that would actually make it functional... If anyone has any input that would be great. Thanks.

    • Really? Nothing??? This is not an obscure issue. Most people want their topic length max to be longer than the standard 60 characters. I'm not asking for some astonishing level of support here. This is something that I think many people would like to know how to address. I realize that you guys can't do everything for everyone, but this is a pretty reasonable request for support which falls well within the realm of what can be expected from a company from whom you purchase a product to address... I'm not being unreasonable in wanting you guys to at least try to offer some input here. The themes are beautiful, and worth every penny, but I don't know why it's so difficult to get the most basic support issues addressed here... Look, I'll even pay someone if you'll tell me how to fix this... Thanks in advance.

    • Hey Jaden,
      Add this to rt.css:

      .postbody h3, li.row {
      word-wrap: break-word;
      }

      This will break long words, phrases into second line if needed.

    • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! How much do I owe you (pls be reasonable) and what paypal acct would you like it in???

      Also, does that code literally go in the first few lines of rt.css or is this yet another embarassing expose of my noobishness because most people would know where it goes???

      btw. wrong forum.
      please post issues for phpbb in the ... phpbb forums.

      please dont post template specific questions here:
      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=15&t=4239&rb_v=viewtopic

      also read this please:
      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=15&t=36997&rb_v=viewtopic

      - My appologies, for some reason I was under the impression that the entire forum was a phpbb forum. For some reason I thought that access to the joomla/wordpress/etc forums would have to be purchased seperately as are their styles and so forth, and I wasn't aware that I even had access to those forums. Also here www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php there is an extensive list of forums for nearly every RT phpbb theme, but obviously not for wordpress, joomla, et al. which helped to create my impression that the entire forum, which is the only fora here I had access to, were all phpbb forums. Hopefully you can understand how I came to glean that perception, but I appologize for having delineated from the convention.

      - I actually wasn't posting template specific question. The question was in relation to all of the RT themes I use, because I experience the issue in each of my RT syles, but in none of the other, non RT styles. That's why I thought I was actually posting in the correct forum. Again, i appologize if that's not the case, or if I failed to clarify that it was a "pan-RT style issue" for me.

      - I actually have read the "tips for support" post previously and, the reason I haven't provided a link to the site is because one of its owners expressed his fervent desire for me not to do so unless necessary (such as hiring a developer, etc.). Although I'm aware that there's probably more than one person on this site who could find some clever way to surmise what the site is if they really cared to, I told him I wouldn't disclose it unless necessary, and I do my very best to keep my word. However, I DID follow the other tips for support: I attached a screenshot of the actual issue and confirmed that I am using the current version of each style. The only applicable tip i seem to have missed was to mention that it happens in every browser which I've used to view it. I thought it was fairly evident that this was not a browser issue, and hence didn't think mentioning it. Again, sorry for having overlooked that step and for having unintentionally flouted protocol.

      I was simply seeking input which I felt was within the realm of reasonable expectations for a patron and which I (seemingly correctly) thought would likely be a fairly simple issue to fix, and even offered to pay for that input, and am still willing to. I did consider the appropriate place to post my request and, although I don't understand how it's the case, but if it is in fact placed inappropriately then it was a genunie error and not a general disregard for where such a message ought to be posted. I'd think this was apparent, but just in case it was not, I wanted to clarify. I also used forum searches to try to see if this iissue had been raised previously (I was surprised when I couldn't find it) before bothering you guys with it. So, I do appologize if I made some protocol errors.

      I know that when I buy your themes that I don't hire you all as my full time developers or consultants and, unlike some others, I don't have that expectation. I was admittely a bit frustrated at the lack of response to what I thought was a fairly standard inquery that would be a fairly simple issue to resolve, which I felt was safely within an appropriate realm of expectations for "support" for a paying customer, rather than "consulting", or some obscure, labor intensive, or pedantic issue or task. I think, for example, that when I recently asked another admin here about MOD installation and he informed me that the general protocol is to find the analagous file in the RT style to prosilver and make the edits to it, unless the file doesn't exist in which case you should create and copy the file into the rt dir, and briefly explained this topic of "inheretance", and linked to more thorough information about it, this too was within reasonable expectations for "support" a customer can have. Conversely, if I wanted him to install the mod for me, walk me through the install step by step, give support for a non RT product/mod or even troubleshoot some specific compatibility issue or file, and try to make some fixes in the code etc then THAT would be above and beyond basic product support expectations and would be inappropriate for someone to feel entitled to such. While you MIGHT recieve that level of support, you certainly can't expect it, and generally speaking, you should expect to pay for that level of suppoort; I fully acknowledge this. I didn't feel that my query was in this second cateogry but was rather safely in the first, and felt some frustration due to not having what I thought was a standard, reasonable question addressed for nearly a week, screenshots and all. However, in reveiwing my posts I can see now that perhaps my frustration was apparent even though I didn't intend for it to be. Although that was unintentional, it was also not in good form. So, I also appologize for that.

    • Okay, so to update I decided to try to poke around and maybe sharpen my, very challenged, developer skills and on Replicant2 I found
      .postbody h3,
      and placed the rest of the code, in line, afterward. it seems to be working perfectly. It was on line 17 for me. So, this will be here for anyone else trying to resolve this issue who searches for it in the future.

      However, in rt.css for quantive and refraction I could find no
      .postbody h3,
      with notepad++, I couldn't even find any "postbody". Is there some other place it ought to go in these? Thanks again.
