Actually, I don't care if this is going to be the fate of this club (Drupal). But I can't stop but react because for almost a decade now, I am a member of Rockettheme with two club memberships (three if you count the defunct SMF club) and I have seen how things changed in this site.
If I remember it right, there were several requests here in the forum which led to the debut of the Drupal Club. Surely, these requests came from Rockettheme members who were already Drupal users. I have also read many times people write on how good Drupal is compared to Joomla (in some aspects), supposedly a compelling reason to try it out. But in this forum, you can't see or read even a bit of discussion about the use of Drupal if your are not a member of this particular club.
Generally, there are two types of members in Rockettheme:
Developers
Enthusiasts
Enthusiasts make up most of the Rockettheme members, judging from the kinds of questions thrown into the forum. By just being able to read selected forum categories about, say, Drupal. A member of other Rockettheme Clubs could gauge if he is up to the challenge of dipping his own feet into the Drupal waters, so to speak. By doing this, a member can be attracted if not converted to the other Rockettheme clubs.
I love Rockettheme. I am a lurker, I know. But believe me, this site is one of my first web destinations whenever I surf. Just reading the thoughts of the guys who keep this site's heart beating is enough for me, and so I don't participate much. Besides, I am not really into web publishing stuffs. With the length of my membership here, I have several entitlements earned but I have only used two. An entitlement to read other Club's selected forum would be a nice addition. LOL.
I have always wanted to try Drupal, Wordpress and Magento (in this order), but really, I don't have the idea how. OK, some may suggest that I head to other sites for help, but I only know of a place to go with regards to such stuff - It's the ROCKETTHEME Forum.
It's a pity, Drupal Club is headed for it's sunset without me seeing how it even had a sunrise. Please, don't start beating me!!! I am just expressing my thoughts and I may be wrong!
Not sure if it is the responsibility of RocketTheme to educate us about various software platforms. There are lots of tutorials and forums that do that if you just Google for them.
RocketTheme is here if you do decide to use it & want to customize it with one of their templates and they do provide excellent support if you encounter problems in that endeavor.
I too would like to learn more about Drupal if I only had the time but Rockettheme would not be the site I would go to to do that. I would head straight to the Drupal site & if I couldn't find the information I needed there then I would stop my search & find an alternative software with better documentation and technical support.
I think to expect more than tech support for their templates would be spreading them too thin and take away from the great support they provide to their club members.
I didn't mean this to be a negative response to your post, just my opinion respectfully submitted.
Thanks for taking time to respond but you missed my point. What I am saying is, if regular Rockettheme members could be given "read-only" access to other club's forum, it may educate members on other Rockettheme's offerings. Could be a win-win situation to avoid similar sudden closure of clubs like that of Drupal. Imagine the preparation and the time invested in putting up the club which is suddenly closed down because of seemingly low turnout. Management have their reasons and I respect them for that. Mine is more of an unsolicited suggestion.
And besides, I didn't say that I am expecting for more than technical support. What I was saying is, I prefer reading about these (web) stuffs in Rockettheme's forum - and in Rockettheme's way.
