    Numerous Site issues!

Posted 13 years 3 months ago
    • Hi there,

      1. I have a site built on Joomla 2.5 with used 2 RT templates for it..........initially Modulus & later Clarion. ( www.berjeesmemorialtrust.com/ ).

      2. It's a Charity site & a small one.

      3. Despite being a retired MD & new to Joomla & RT templates happen to install it with a expert assistance of a extremely nice member Mr. David.

      4. Started to get confused when it came to issues like lay out, logo uploading, Slide shows, Security, SEO, Social plugins, News Feeds extensions etc.

      5. So I hired the assistance of a local web developer who quoted me a price of USD $ 300 for them, which I gladly paid.

      6. To start with he disliked my hosting company & had to change for SSL, PHP 5.3.8 etc which I did.

      7. I asked him to use one of the RT Gantry based templates, which initially was reluctant cause he probably had never worked on, but did manage to ONLY INSTALL Clarion template with Rok Gallery & Rok News.

      8. When it came to the adjustments of layout, uploading etc he messed the whole site.

      9. I understood that had made the wrong decision thanked him, asking him not to try if he was ignorant about them he insisted to use a different template framework which I declined.

      10. Bottom line I tried to revert back to my 1st installed template that is Modulus but it too is messed up.

      11. The site despite having hardly any content is extremely slow to load, with no image gallery, substandard social plugins & extensions.......gives a non professional look with an extremely poor lay out.

      12. When I asked him his answer was that it was SSL causing to load slow......http to https??

      13. What are my options........to delete Joomla using CP & do a fresh install or can these issue be looked in & fixed.

Any assistance in this regard shall highly be appreciated.

      Thanks.

    • Hi Mike,

Joomla 2.5 will only run on php version 5.3+ so he was right about one thing :cheesy:

Is the login the same as you sent me previously? If it is I will take a look and advise the best route.

      Regards

He wasn't even right about that.

I am running Joomla 2.5 with an RT template and array of RT and other Extensions on php 5.2.9 right now with zero issues.

Not out of choice though. I updated my server to php 5.3.9, but it destroyed my RT Joomla 1.x sites. I thought I had fixed it after some mods to php.ini and other hacks, but it seems the issues are far too extensive for Joomla 1.x to run under php 5.3x - nothing to do with RT.

So I am faced with eventually updating all my Joomla 1.x sites to Joomla 2.5x - big job.

I think php really lost the plot with 5.3x, but we have to go with what we have. For now - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" :)

Mike: I am very busy, but I and my family do a lot for charity. PM me if you need any unbiased advice - I have 25 years in the Internet and been with Joomla from day one.

I would say that if you are paying a so called "developer" to do some work for you, they should respect your choice of host. I run my own servers - could not achieve my objectives otherwise.

Although I am always very busy maintaining and developing my own sites, my nephew is absolutely brilliant with Joomla, custom layouts, graphics etc and I am sure he would help you out for a very reasonable consideration.
