Upgrading existing site to 2.5 via Rocketlauncher install

Hi,
I have a heavily popoulated Camber website(400+pages and module settings), based on a Rocketlauncher install. I want to upgrade to 2.5 using the supplied rocketlauncher and therefore a fully clean install. Import old database. I can't upgrade using the extension manager, because I've got all sorts of folder/file permission errors on the server, addressed in numerous forum posts. So I want to start over, but what are the effects of copying the template and css files from a 1.7 version to a 2.5 version?
Please help...
