WP Theme is Slow (Modulus)

    • I have just installed my 2nd Wordpress Theme - modulus. We and client love it, but it's painfully slow loading.

      www.sdri.net

I have installed W3 Total Cache and tweaked as much as I can and while the scores improved, it's still ranking pretty far down the totem pole. I'm using the following sites, some were recommended here on these forums.

      www.webpagetest.org/
      tools.pingdom.com/fpt/
      gtmetrix.com/

Many of the variables are optimized okay, and some just don't seem to matter as much, but the one that really kills me is the time to first byte - it's never been below 3.5 seconds before the site does anything. And the first render bytes are in the 9+ second range, while final first time page loading is in the 11-12 second range.

I've seen alot of talk around here about poor performance, especially with the newer themes, but are there any thoughts on my this particular site, or optimizing WP themese in general? Or could it be a hosting or W3 Cache issue?

      Thanks

    • Hi, this is most likely related to your hosting. The time before the page loads is the time spent connecting to your server. If you are on shared hosting this time will vary depending on the server traffic at that particular time. It's usually worse in the middle of the day.

I went to your site and it loaded up relatively quick, I didn't really have any delays at all. I would contact your host to see if they are any issues or explanations on their end.
    • The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.
