How to move site to a new template and joomla version

Posted 12 years 11 months ago
    • I hope it is OK to post this here since it does have to do with templates but if it needs to be moved then move away.

I currently have a site on Joomla 1.5 using the Infuse (oct 09) template. I want to move the site to joomla 2.5 using the Ionosphere (Mar 12) template. Here is what I tempted to do.

I downloaded the Ionosphere RocketLauncher template (joomla 2.5 included) installed it on my local development server. All good. Site works just as expected locally.

Now I go to the old site which is live, log into MyPhpAdmin, go to the database and do an export. I try to import this same database into the Ionosphere database using Navicat (database admin tool) and it seems to work just fine. no errors. When I go into Navicate I can actually see that the data has been imported into the Ionosphere tables however non of the newly imported data ever shows up in the admin section of Ionosphere.

Obviously I am totally new at this but I am not understanding why this is not working. Is it a Joomla version issue? Am I going to have to do a migrate to move all the data over? There is way too much data to simply just recreate what I already have.

      Many thanks,
      Houston
