Wordpress 3.4 update broke my site

Posted 12 years 11 months ago
    • Hello,

I just updated my wordpress to 3.4, and updated all my plugins, and after those updates my website (using Maelstrom Theme) no longer displays properly. It only shows one post, no header/footer, no menu, no widgets or pages either, just one post. I cannot figure out what is causing this issue. I was going to try to update the theme to version 1.1 to see if that resolves the issue but Wordpress thinks my theme is up to date, which it's not.

Any ideas on how to solve this, or how to get the up to date theme?

      Thank you for you help,

      Sam

    • Hi, we're still testing with Wordpress 3.4, it literally just came out hours ago and we haven't released any updates for it yet. We've been working with the RC versions for about a week but we don't get the final versions any sooner than you do.

Best to check with us first before upgrading, if you're not sure, just ask us - upgrades can be serious business and developers need a bit of time to check for issues. All I can suggest as a fast solution is reverting to a backup copy, you should have made one before upgrading, hopefully you did.

If you want us to take a look at it, you'll have to provide a link. I can't say what the cause might be without seeing the site.

    • After upgrade my site is still working, but the Rokgallery backend is broken. I am getting error pop-ups (which, unfortunately, do not have any explanations) for any action that I am trying to take, e.g. clicking Load More button, tagging, publishing. My customer's site is www.engcreative.com . I can provide you username/pass to the backend in the private message, if you need them

    • We are aware of the issues with RokGallery in 3.4, the Ajax handling has changed, and the developers are working on an update as we speak and will be released as soon as possible. Until then, we recommend anyone using RokGallery stick with 3.3 for the time being.

For anyone else reading this thread, so far this is the only issue we have encountered with 3.4, none of us have experienced broken sites or any other admin issues. As I said, we do not get the final release of WP before anyone else does, and it's not possible for us to test every different scenario that our members may encounter. So individual problems will have to be addressed as we get reports of them. We have to deal with the new changes and issues just like everyone else does.

I can't stress this enough, always make a backup of your site before doing WP upgrades. Anytime you need to make a major change in your system, you should always make a backup first. Changing the software version and core files of your website software should always be considered a major change. It's not something you can undo, so backup first just in case. If possible, you should also test the changes on a local server or development area before attempting it on a live site.
