{Solved} Using per menu - 2nd template fails

  • {Solved} Using per menu - 2nd template fails

Posted 12 years 11 months ago
    • I'm trying to use per menu to configure one section of a web site with a different template than the mail site. This should be possible when using per menu configuration, but it's not working. When I add a menu item and select parameters in one template, it also shows in the other template. When I look at the page, it shows the template of the default template.

J 1.5.26. Gantry 3.1.20. Halcyon and Clarion are the 2 templates.

    • I solved this. I did not know how to apply a whole template to menu items. I thought it was with the Menu Item button, next to the Default button, above the Presets in the template. I just discovered the Menu Assignment box at the bottom of the lefthand column in the template. THAT's where the menu items are assigned to the template.

    • Since I batted zero for your other post, let's give it another shot here.
So lets say Halcyon is the default and Clarion will be used for one or more other menu pages.
So here's your menu item link for the Clarion part of template you want to use ->
      index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=57

What we need to do is tell Joomla we want that link to open up in on a page with Clarion as the template.
Rockettheme, specifically RokNavMenu has provided you with a very easy way to do this called "Extended Query Strings".

So, go to Admin -> Menu Manager -> *Menu* -> Menu Item → Parameters (Extended Query Strings)
and enter these values so it looks like this:

Save it and go to your Home page and click the link and you should see this URL ->
      index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=57&template=rt_clarion_j15
where the red part of the URL has been added by RokNavMenu.

To read more on this nifty feature see -> http://www.rockettheme.com/blog/extensions/416-extend-your-possibilities-with-extendedlink

    • Dan, Thanks for trying, though. Thanks for the extended link tutorial. I've bookmarked it. Probably time I moved this site to J2.5, but I'm under time pressure to build a significant new section to the old site. And, upgrades scare me. Art

As all experienced trekkers and portageers know you have to have backup :)

In this case it's called Akeeba Backup with which you'll be able to confidently explore that new territory called "Joomla 2.5"

All kidding aside the combination of J25 and our Mission Control Admin template is a force to be reckoned with.

    • Thanks for that. I'm looking at Akeba now.
