Installing a new template

    • Hello there. I know this is such a newbie question!

Prior to joining Rockettheme, I downloaded and installed the free Quasar template for one of my sites (J1.5). Now that I am a member, I what to rock out with a new template. Since my original site was J1.5, but the new template I want to use (I'm thinking Catalyst or Fresco) is 2.5. Can I just install it as a new template -- the rocketlauncher version? I don't really care too much about losing data from the original site.

Do I have to uninstall the old version of Joomla? And what about Gantry?

    • Hi there,

RocketLauncher can only be used as a new site. It will load Joomla, the template, gantry, extensions and demo content. You can then edit as required.

You cannot install a 2.5 template on a 1.5 joomla - it will break :D

If this resolves your problem then please edit your first post in this thread by adding SOLVED at the start of the title and then select the green tick icon. This lets the moderators know that it can be moved to the solved section.

      Thanks for your cooperation :)

    • Thanks for your reply. But I'm wondering if I uninstall Joomla wouldn't it be like a new installation? Or does uninstalling Joomla not uninstall Gantry?

    • There is no option to uninstall Joomla unless your original installation was done by Fantastico or one of the automated installers.

    • I thought I could create a new database and install Joomla 2.5 inside a subdirectory and then install a new Rockettheme template there. The only thing I wasn't sure about was whether to install a Rocketlauncher version of the template or not. I don't know if installing Joomla in another directory has any bearing on the previously installed Gantry. Or does deleting the old version of Joomla also delete Gantry?

In essence, I will eventually delete my old Joomla website and replace it with the new one installed in a subdirecroy (moving it with akeeba backup). Since it is a complete rebuild, I am not worried about lost data.
