How to change number of posts for a page or category.

I'm using the Mercado theme and the default Gantry setting for posts is set at 2, which works for the home page. But can't figure out how to get my category pages to show only 2 posts at a time. It keeps showing 5 posts.
I tried doing some overrides but it just stays at 5 posts per category page. Are there some specific instructions or tricks to get my category pages to display a different number of posts?
Any help is much appreciated!
