    • I recently picked up a free template from http://www.hogash.com/free-templates/eris-free-premium-joomla-25-template/ . Upon inspection and modifications I have found that this is a RT theme modified and redistributed freely.

      Here is the css heading
      /**
       * @version   3.2.19 April 2, 2012
       * @author     RocketTheme http://www.rockettheme.com
       * @copyright Copyright (C) 2007 - 2012 RocketTheme, LLC
       * @license   http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.html GNU/GPLv2 only
       */

      this author has many templates on themeforest and I was wondering if anyone there at RT knew that people are rebranding RTs themes and selling them??

    • You will find he is using the Gantry framework which is freely available.

      That heading is giving credit to the framework used.

      He sells themes over on Theme forest and they have to be approved before they are published.

      You should stop going around and posting links about authors and understand what you are talking about.

      It can be very hurting for a company when people like you post rubbish.

    • I admire your concern regarding integrity and honesty in this business. I'd certainly like to know if someone is using MY work without me knowing about it.

      I think it's great our members take the time to notice RT's work and see others selling it as their own. The thing is, you need to understand licensing and copyrights before you start assuming someone is being underhanded. I did take a peek at the site and it seems all the appropriate credits are there.

      MANY professional designers develop custom templates based on the work of another. Can you say "Joomla"? The core CMS is free of charge and available to any who want to use it for any reason, personal OR professional. Thousands of developers and volunteers have contributed to this system and it's developed quite a "cottage industry" around it.

      Once you install the "core" system, the plugins, extensions, modules, styles, etc. leave us with endless possibilities and endless credits to all who help devlop and participate in the fun of web design to begin with.

      When I use the work of others, they get credit. If I create a product I can sell from it, I always obtain proper copyright permissions. Last but not least, I always, always, ALL ways, share the profits of their labors as well as my own. HOW I do that is no one's business but ours and isn't up for public debate.

      There is a possibility this person is affiliated or partnered with some of the folks he built his work upon. So don't be too quick to judge. You just never know. There are many creative ways to put a team together for building templates.

      When in doubt about a copyright issue, you should go to the SOURCE first. That would be the author, NOT the developer. Could be, there's a perfectly logical explanation.

      But do not assume anything, for I agree with Alex, you can kill a person's business with just one post that gets shared, favored, reposted, etc. You had a legitimate (and even noble) question, but perhaps it should have been posted in private to the author first and then, if necessary, notify the RT Team here www.rockettheme.com/contact-us , rather than publicly.
