Database connection error (2): Could not connect to MySQL.

    • I am building a site that has a lot of portions: Joomla, JomSocial, EasyBlog, EasyDiscuss, Virtumart with the AEC payment system for JomSocial and Virtumat. Only Virtumart is setup with the AEC so far. Anyway, I installed the Fracture template last week and almost immediately began getting subject error.

The error does not happen all the time, but is persistent and keeps appearing. I have tried changing the template for Jomsocial and Virtumart back to the standard Beez2 template and this has reduced the frequency of the error appearing.

You can see the error on http://www.lifesensuals.com by moving around on the site. Most of the time it occurs while using Fracture Template after being to the Jomsocial and/or Virtumart.

Love this template and really want to use it, but not sure if it will work with these other Components...?

Can anyone tell me if this problem is being experienced by anyone else and/or give me a solution?

      Thanks,
      Craig

    • Hi, that's not a problem with your website, it's a problem with your hosting - it means your server is dropping the connection to the database. Contact your host for an explanation / solution.
    • The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

    • Cliff,

I have had this happen to me Twice now. The first time I had to create a new user in my DB and change the user and PW in the configuration.php file. This last time, which was today, I was able to notice that the user was changed in my configuration.php file but not completely changed it had only had an extra "a" appended on the end. I know this is not a template issue but this forum is the only place I have found so far that came anywhere close to this discussion. Do you have anything you can suggest as to why my configuration.php file has been changed? I am the only one with file access. The permissions are set to 0444 for this file. Hoping you can lead me in a direction that I will be able to figure this out.

      Thank You,
      Timothy

    • Hi, are you sure it got changed and you didn't accidentally paste in the extra letter at some point? I ask because the only way it can get changed is if someone changes it inside the file, there is no other way to access or edit that information. If you didn't change it, someone else did.

If it happens again, check the modified date on the file and your server logs to see if someone is hacking into your site or changing your files. That's all I can suggest. Make sure you keep backups of the correct configuration so you can restore quickly if it happens again.

This last time the website was working fine on Friday I had a writer try to access the site Sunday night and she got the "Database connection error". I checked the Configuration file and sure enough the only change was that the username had an extra "a". I made no changes between that time or had even looked at the config file in several weeks. It is just weird that if someone is "hacking" why they would only change that one thing and not something major. I will put my precautions in place to check for that.

      Thank You for your time,
      Timothy
